The overall goal of the Melian Foundation is to build
sustainable livelihoods for the poor and the disadvantaged communities with specific
objective of: Increasing awareness and knowledge among the communities on the impact
of natural disasters on economic sustainability, advocate for effective participatory
mechanisms adopted by the communities to reduce the impact of natural disasters on
economic livelihoods and Increased capacity of the communities in production, management
and marketing of agricultural and non-agricultural products, including micro-enterprises.
As a result, Melian Foundation is implementing Mushroom farming project as part of Livelihood project with focus in raising awareness on nutritional benefits of Mushroom product. Mushrooms are a low-calorie food and pack a nutritional punch. Loaded with many health-boosting vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, they’ve long been recognized as an important part of any diet.
Mushrooms exposed to ultraviolet light are a good source of vitamin D, an important component for bone and immune health. Cremini mushrooms are an excellent source of zinc, which is an important nutrient for the immune system and is also needed for ensuring optimal growth in infants and children. The project also focuses on empowering economically whereby they will be selling portion of the produced mushroom to boost their economic status.
The government has already put in place strategies to support communities establish such sources and our role will be to facilitate the process toward implementing such programs to the marginalized communities and the groups in need.
Our committment is to stand with other partners and government to facilitate the established strategies and implement programs which will entirely focus on supporting the global SDG's and government strategies.
